I first met A Shin in Taipei 1997. He was auditioning for the lead singer position for the band “Diplomats” which I was a member of at the time. A Shin had great talent, but to make it in this business talent is not enough. He needed better singing techniques, so I took him on as a student. I taught him proper singing techniques such as proper breathing, placement, resonance, phrasing, interpretation etc. I also began writing and arranging songs for him. It took me 3 years to get the music and A Shin into shape and ready to record an album to US standards. After finishing most of songs & arrangements, I went to New York where I enlisted some of the best musicians and engineers I could find to record the songs. Because of their unrivaled talent, experience & expertise the songs sounded great.

I showed the songs to many companies, but it was Avex Taiwan that loved the music. The record company loved the songs, but they felt that since this was rock music they needed a band. So I began interviewing local musicians whom I thought would work well with A Shin’s music. The result was an almost overnight success. The first album had 5 hit singles including the mega hit “ Si Le Dou Yao Ai” . The Second album had another super hit “ Li Ge”. The third album had 2 monster hits: “ Hai Kou Tian Kong “ & “ Qian Nian Zhi Lian” which I wrote for A Shin & Ai Ling – both my students. The fourth album had the hit s “Tiao Xin” &” Jia Ru”. I produced all 5 albums & the live DVD for Shinband.
